Onward and Forward

The first annual Holiday Art Sale and Fundraiser was a success. I raised almost one hundred dollars for Mid Toronto Community Services. I hope for a larger donation next year.

Thanks to all those who made a donation.

I wonder what the year will bring. I look forward to a long luxurious vacation somewhere warm and gorgeous or somewhere freezing where the air is crisp and clean. There are so many ways the year could unfold.

I wish you peace, love, good health and happiness. May your path be filled with goodness and your heart be filled with love.

Find a video of A Soulful Senior’s Moment above. Currently seeking a publisher. Please contact me if you're interested.

Don't forget to look for new work on my website:

Oh, and for those of you on a spiritual path, consider a deck of Healing Angel Cards. I like to shuffle these when my pals are all busy and I have a question for the universe.

Check them out on amazon.com.

Cheers!

Holiday Gifts - Holiday Art Sales

The holidays are a great time to reconnect with those we have lost touch with, to show appreciation to those close to us in our lives and to spread some good, nice magic around. It can be one of the most depressing times for a person, but if you decided to look up instead of down, your luck can change.

So many people have recommended I see the film, ‘A Wonderful Life’ sadly, I still haven’t.
‘Love Actually’, was recommended and I adore it. It’s a really sweet film about being in love that actually ends happily. A nice pick me up.

Now, the occasional escapist film can put a smile on one’s face, but the reality is that people are in need and at this time of year it’s important to remember that. That's why part of the proceeds of my Holiday Art sale will go to Mid Toronto Community Services.

Each year, as I mentioned in a previous blog, I volunteer at Cocktails for the Community, a fundraiser for Mid Toronto Community Services. This charitable organization extends itself to seniors in the community.

It’s also a great time to find peace within. How do we do that and make it last throughout the year? I’ll let you know when I find out.
‘In the meantime, in between time’, as my pal, DL used to say, I extend this invitation to buy some art at my Holiday Art Sale and Fundraiser.

It's a third floor walk up. Sorry for the inconvenience.

I’ve extended the hours to
Wednesday December 19, 12-6
Thursday December 20, 12-6
Saturday December 22, 12-6 &
Sunday December 23, 12-6

Refreshments are free. And fresh bake goods, juice, wine, eggnog etc. will be served.
Prices range from $5 to $1300.

Lots of original art for sale. Great stocking stuffers. Recycled items as well.

Just the other day I found some wood outside my building and turned it into art.

Love 7"x9" - $95

Hope 7" x 9" - $95

Flow 7" x 9" - $95

I also recently produced a couple of portraits for a client.

Snoop Lion.
I remember him fondly as Snoop Dog. His original name was Calvin Broadus.

There is so much controversy around his decision to smoke or not to smoke marijuana. I heard that recently he decided to smoke again. The client requested an image of him smoking a joint. I personally, would have painted him without it. His music to me is more about the way his body sways when he performs. Some slow motion, soulful something but I can acknowledge the artistic impact of him with a joint in his mouth.

Whatever means he uses to inspire himself is personal. But so many artists get lost in the world of drugs. I wonder if he feels he has to stop at some point in order to remain focused. So many fans probably want to know his secret. Perhaps he is simply gifted.

His new album, Here Comes the King will be out tomorrow.

I also recently painted Mr. Presley for a client.

As a child, his Christmas album entitled, ‘Elvis Christmas Album’ was one of my favourites.

Now Public Enemy said in one of their tunes, Elvis was a hero to most. Was he racist? Apparently he had black servants.

I don’t want to upset the Elvis fans, but there had to be segway from Snoop Lion to the King.

I’ll save that story for a later time. For now, let’s bask in the magic of amazon.ca where you can buy his albums. Click here to buy his Christmas albums online.

Click here to browse through his Christmas films and to order them online.

And then click, click, click in your high heels all the way to the Holiday Art Sale and Fundraiser.

Much love over the holidays!!

So far I’ve raised $53 for Mid Toronto Community Services

I set my goal at $2000 on Facebook, but I’d like to increase the donation amount to $5000. I think it’s possible.

It’s important to remember the elderly during the holidays.

Many have paved the way for us. Lived lives that were rich and have wisdom to share with all of us.

Mid - Toronto Community Services supports the elderly in Toronto. I am honoured to be asked each year to paint live at their annual Cocktails for the Community, an event that was founded by my sister while she was the Chair of their Board. She invited me to participate in this event and I accepted with joy.

I mentioned the graphic novel I produced while at George Brown College. We were asked to create an advertising campaign for a charity. I chose Mid - Toronto Community Services and wrote a book about the elderly.

I am still seeking a publisher and welcome referrals and suggestions.

The Holiday Art Sale and Fundraiser will be held in the Yonge and Eglinton area for the next two weeks. Look forward to free baked goods and beverages.

Thursday December 13 & 20 | 3 - 6
Saturday December 15 & 22 | 12 - 6
and Sunday December 16 & 23 | 12 – 6

One day I was walking around down in the dumps. I kept asking people why art was important. I was given many answers. The one that stuck with me was told to me by a complete stranger. She said, 'Art is important because we need beautiful things.'

Ongoing Projects:

No More Kissing Frogs - A Toronto based novel about online dating now in the hands of Second Story Press. Let's hope they publish it.

Morphine Dreams - Creative non-fiction about my near death experience and healing.

The Space of Love - written in 2001 and is yet to be published.

Granny Do You Think Love Lasts - began writing it in 2001 and have yet to finish the edit.

A Tribute to Whitney Houston - upcoming at Mojo Music

Drake and Snoop Dog commissions for a client

Movie stardom.

Still aiming for an exhibition at the Guggenheim and in various galleries around the world.

What happens when we lose our way?  I wish I knew.

I suggest simple things like baking, knitting, journal entries, and sculpting can really help with the depression that can sometimes be an issue during the holidays.

Lately for me, it's film. Here are a few of my favourite ones for that aren't completely
Disney and aren't so much about Christmas as they are about the spirit of it. They make you think and cheer you up.

I spent yesterday with family. We watched The Mirror Has Two Faces featuring Barbra Streisand. She is one of my favourites! In this film, she meets a man who wants to get married but does not want to have sex because for him, it becomes too emotional. He says that it gets too confusing and that he loses control of his life. I won't give it all away. But for those of you who are looking for some feel good movies that pull at your heart strings, here are a few:

Reign Over Me
The Adjustment Bureau
Cairo Time
Moonstruck

Tis, the season to be jolly, so I won't bore you with my troubles. But I am in pretty good health these days and wish the same for you!

Peace, love and chocolate!

Simone
I really hope to see you. Please invite people you love who love art.
And buy, buy, buy.

Part of the proceeds will go to Mid Toronto Community Services.
