Mello Yellow Wire Faces at de Mello Palheta Roastery and Specialty Coffee

Alright - 2013 - $95

The mini concert at de Mello Palheta Roastery and Specialty Coffee was a nice mellow time.

A great escape.
One of the owners told me that people love the wire faces on the wall.
Each face expresses an emotion.
He asks the customers as they order, which face represents their mood.

There are twelve images for sale each representing a different emotion.

Purchase one work of art for $95. If you buy three pieces, the charge will be $255.

A steal! A deal! A fabulous investment!
I’ve attached images of the new pieces that I have created on pine. These pine images are washed with yellow acrylic paint.

So - 2013 - $95

Wonder - 2013 - $95

Shock - 2013 - $95

Oh - 2013 - $95

Thinking - 2013 - $95

The turn out was great. The venue was packed with music and art lovers.

Remember to visit de Mello Palheta for a coffee or a snack when you're in the Yonge and Eglinton area.

So far, I have raised $25.

I must be popular. Someone keeps logging into my blog from another location. Time for a better firewall!!

A tune for all the ladies and gents who enjoy this blog and love a great theme song...

Funny story. My first fashion design job was at a tee shirt manufacturer who shall remain nameless. My pal F recommended me for the position. I have some great stories about that job.

I set my alarm to a country station so that I'd get out of bed to get there. I was neither fond of working in a factory nor was I fond of the 2 hour commute.

Waking up to country music got me out of bed immediately, until I eventually learned the words to all the songs and sang them as I fell asleep and missed my alarm.

I remember the day that I decided to leave that job. As I was on the bus, I thought, if I stayed on the bus, it would take me right back to the subway. Should I get off the bus, I wondered, or should I go to work. I got off the bus like a fool and in less than three seconds, I quit.

Some members of the management team loved my drive, ambition and style of working, others... well let's just say, F sang this song to me at least once a day.

More than a woman, for those of you who love a good theme song!!

Cheers,

Simone

Shock - 2013

Exhibiting art in cafés can be fun, although I’d much prefer the Guggenheim but alas, I am not there yet.

A great newish pal of mine, sends me links to articles about health, wealth and sustainability.  I was soooo happy to get this bit of information:

6. Coffee
Thine eyes do not deceive (even if you are in the midst of a sugar crash). Coffee is good for your brain. Did you know coffee actually contains fiber? That's going to help your cardiovascular system. Coffee also exerts some noted benefit to your brain in addition to providing you with a detectable energy boost.

The trick is not to have more than a few cups. But you can safely enjoy 2-4 cups daily – we are talking about supercharging here. Just please don't go ruining a good thing by loading it up with sugar! Espresso beans are actually a phenomenally healthy snack, by the way.

As an avid coffee drinker who is trying unsuccessfully to switch to various types of teas, the information above was very well received.

One of my favourite films in times of woe is:

Especially for the content regarding the coffee that Jack Nicolson’s character drinks. I’ll spoil it for you, if you haven’t seen it yet, because I am notorious for doing that.

Jack Nicolson’s character finds out shortly before he dies that the special flavour of the coffee he loves is a result of it being peed on by meercats. I’ll have to see it again. Makes me smile. It’s a great film for people who are becoming exhausted with the responsibilities they carry even though they are ill, but it’s not a Disney film. So if you’re extremely sensitive and vulnerable… let’s just say I warned you. There are very graphic scenes of illness.

Can you tell that I haven’t been to a new film in a while?

Okay, listen Ladies, and Gents, here’s the thing. I have been told for ages that I am more like a man in my ‘ways’. My lady pals have told me to allow men time to go to their ‘cave’ when they need to. But I have a cave too. Why does it seem that whenever I am completed at my wits end, broke, depressed, generally annoyed, that I finally get asked out. No subway tokens. No cab fare…

That’s when Prince Charming often appears. Back in the day, my girls would lend me money so that I could accept the date. Girl power, rules!

One of my students told me. ‘Miss,’ he said. (Although I insisted he call me, Simone). ‘Miss,’ he said again. ‘There are plenty of fish in the sea.’

Please remember to visit de Mello Palheta Roastery andSpecialty Coffee for a bite to eat. Great desserts! Lovely staff!

And this Saturday, there’s a mini concert that begins at 5pm.
It’s FREE.

I’m still looking forward to exhibiting at The Artist Project. Let’s hope that works out!

You may be wondering what happened with BAND. Let’s just say, I read part of Getting to Yes, when perhaps I should have been reading Getting Together.

Life goes, on. Still making art. Still writing. Still thinking of a master plan.

You can support me by sharing this link or by making a donation.
Thanks in advance!

Tonight! - Exploring Emotion | de Mello Specialty Coffee & Roastery | 7:30 - 9:30pm

-->
Insightful - 2010

Great news! I was interviewed for the Executive MBA at York University in Toronto.

Getting There - 2011

It was an honour to be invited and interviewed for a programranked best in the world by the London Economist. I imagined running a multinational corportation. I envisioned myself sitting at my rosewood desk, all aspects of the business in place. Creating a company with staff who were happy to work for me. A lawyer and the CEO of a multinational corporation, why not?

One hundred and fifteen thousand dollars is the asking price for a dream like this to come true. Something to consider, perhaps. In a few years, I could fundraise for that.

This opportunity made me considered the illustrative literary piece that I will post  again. A musician and a lawyer, why not?

There are so many opportunities available to all of us designed to make us grow, think smarter, work more efficiently, open our minds. I have a vision in mind for myself that will be incredibly if it goes as planned.

Now, in the hear and now. I hope to see you tonight at:

Exploring Emotion - Thursday August 8, 7:30 - 9:30, 2013

-->

An artist that I met who shall remain nameless told me that creating art, for him, had nothing to do with money. Which I thought was fantastic.

In relation to selling, for artists who are stumped on strategies. He was advised that the best thing to do is to stand back and wait.

Works for love too, don't you think??

Exploring Emotion

This art is created using lumber and hardware. The pieces are illustrative of
the emotions one goes through when faced with conflict. Some are holding
onto goodness, others are a act of defiance, some spiritual protection. Because
“thinking makes it so” as Shakespeare once said and a million books on
manifestation reiterate. This exhibition explores some emotions attached to dreams
coming true. Let’s see what dream we dream by accident. Review so that we
can pick the right one.

Zagging | Exploring Emotion | The Artist Project | Moonriver

Smokin' - $600

Solid - $600

So, despite the boo hoo’s from my new pal in the neighbourhood, I’ve decided to crowdsource once more.

This link to the indiegogo page entitled, The ArtistProject,

http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/the-artist-project/x/2770168

will do more than provide you with an opportunity to support this Canadian artist. It is also a portfolio piece connecting many of the online resources useful for social media promotion.

One of my profs at George Brown College, Professor G, who was part of the reason I did so well in that program, advised me to slightly change words when using them in advertising. By that I mean, I wanted to call, A Soulful Senior’s Moment, ‘A Senior’s Moment,’ I thought it would be funnier. I changed the title upon his advice. In this case, I used the name ‘the artists project’ in the indiegogo link. I thought I’d Zag.

This is a great book for those who are interested in advertising and marketing. It is a quick easy read and provides incredible advice.

As mentioned in a previous blog, this event is not one to miss. For artists and art lovers, I certainly hope that you participate as well.

I really look forward to seeing you at my exhibition this Thursday :

Purchasing works of art from this exhibit will support my participation in The Artist Project.
I have been advised, time and time again to choose a cause. That my art should not only be a way for me to meet my end, but that I should also consider giving back to society.

I volunteer each year at Cocktails for the Community run by Mid Toronto Community Services.

This year, I was so frazzled that I forgot to bring the pieces for silent auction. I promised L, that when the work sold, I’d give Mid Toronto Community Services 20%. These two will be included in:

That’s all for now, folks.

Oh, and Hello Maestro, (http://wesmaestrowilliams.com/)
whom I heard on the radio recently. He has a new album out.
It's on my list of those to pick up.

I keep thinking of this track:

Oh, and by the way, my pal S and I applied to the CIA graphic design department many moons ago. They never did respond. But if you're looking through old applications for new employees, 'Sorry guys, I'm not longer interested.'

No offense to my American pals. I simply prefer a quiet life.

Cheerio,
