Free art class this Saturday during Fall Fest!

'Gregory Heinz Dances' will be a part of the Fall Art Walk via NTGA

Here’s why it pays to be charming, kind and a bit nosy. One day, I was walking up Yonge Street and was about to pass a woman putting a sign up at a parkette.

“Oh, a street festival. Sounds like fun! Saturday, September 28th. What will be happening will there be artists?” (Click here to find out more! www.uptownyonge.com/fallfest )

“Well, there will be a beading table and I’ve hired some students to teach art. Maybe next year I can rent a table to sell my art.”

“There is no art for sale. But you’re an artist? I was looking for someone to teach art classes but I couldn’t find anyone.”

“Well, I’m available. What are the hours?”

Low and behold, I will be giving free art lessons on Saturday, September 28th from 1-5pm. Please come by for your free chalk pastel drawing lesson. The course suits all ages. You will be learning to draw realistically and to stylize with a focus on negative space. You will be able to take your work home free of charge.

What can be better than a day uptown on a hopefully crisp and sunny Fall afternoon!

Visit the great shops in the area especially de MelloPalheta Specialty Coffee and Roastery on the West side of Yonge and Castlefield across the street from the old Capitol Theatre.

I have scheduled an art opening and artist talk at de MelloPalheta on October 25th from 7:30pm to 9:30pm. The Artist Talk is scheduled for 8:00pm. The press is cordially invited. I was speaking to the pastry chef at de Mello – arranging to provide some tasty desserts for you to munch on while you view the works presented.

Oh and Yay Canada.

In today's Globe and Mail, there is an article featuring the bike that my replace my stolen supercycle.

The Sora is electric, quiet and looks pretty cool to me. It is "the first Canadian-built street-legal electric motorcycle, which hits the road this fall."

Stay beautiful!

Jimi Hendrix Painting | Part of the Proceeds to Mid Toronto!

Smokin' - ink on mulberry paper - $600

Solid - ink on mulberry paper - $600
Many moons ago when I installed these Jimi Hendrix paintings at Mojo Music in Oakville, my Toronto clients and pals were so annoyed.

'All the way out West? Can you please exhibit them in glorious Toronto?'

You can now find Solid and Smokin' at de Mello Palheta Specialty Coffee and Roastery at Yonge and Castlefield.

...a bit about de Mello...

In the 17th Century, the King of Portugal sent Francisco de Mello Palheta to French Guinea to obtain coffee seeds to become a part of the coffee market. He had difficulty obtaining the coffee seeds, yet he captivated the French Governor's wife and she sent him enough coffee seeds and shoots to commence the coffee industry of Brazil. In 1893, Francisco de Mello Palheta planted and spread out the coffee to Kenya and Tanzania. We, de Mello Palheta specialty coffee roasters, are named after him and proud to be a part of his continuous journey.

They have painted the walls in the back room with new graffiti and I am proud to announce that Solid and Smokin' are currently hanging on their walls.

A fabulous opening will be announced. I hope to see you there!!

20% of the proceeds
from the sales of Solid and Smokin'
will go to Mid Toronto Community Services.
(fondly referred to as Mid Toronto)

I am a proud supporter of Mid Toronto. They advocate for seniors as I have mentioned many times on this blog. They went so far as to rescue one senior from an abusive care-taker. He had stalkholm syndrome. They were able to get him proper care and ensure that his finances were once again used for his benefit, as she, the caretaker, was robbing him.

Remember to see A Tribute to Whitney Houston at Mojo Music at 430 Speers Road in Oakville. There are still works of art available.

A Tribute to Bob Marley is on the way to its walls later this year.

Exploring Emotion is still on the wonderful walls of de Mello Palheta!

This piece is for people who have given up on love. For those who think they are too weird or too damaged to find someone to love them. For those who have considered filling the space of love with work, money, pets or baked good. One of the best cures for romantic depression is to read something inspiring!

Get Up

For creative types who have considered a career in banking. For people who have lost loved ones who when alive, lead the way. For children and adults without parents. For wise people who have grown tired. For those who once believed in many things, but find themselves crying at the loss of goodness in the world. For those who need a reason to keep going. Get up!

A Soulful Senior’s Moment

(copy and paste the link into your browser clicking on it fails)

was written as a thesis project for the advertising stream of Graphic Design at George Brown College in 2009. I graduated from that program with a Dean’s list standing and was a finalist in the year end show. The piece was converted into a graphic novel which I look forward to publishing.
Part of the proceeds of the sale of this book will go to Mid Toronto Community Services. This organization is located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Mid Toronto advocated for seniors, provides programs to entertain them, provides meals for the elderly and does a world of good.

Finally! A Way to Give Back!! - now with active links!

Finally, a way to give back. Many moons ago, as you may have read in one of my previous blogs, I created a graphic novel called, A Soulful Senior's Moment. I am in the process of making a few more edits before I launch the graphic novel on Smashwords. For now it is in print for your viewing pleasure.

You can view my profile by clicking here or by cutting and pasting the link below into your browser:

I am proud to announce that the written version is now available. Part of the proceeds will go to Mid Toronto Community Services.

I volunteer as a live painter each year at their annual Cocktails for the Community fundraiser. This year they shared one of their success stories. They rescued a senior from an abusive caretaker. The elderly man suffered from Stockholm syndrome. They came to his aid and is now in good hands.

Charity is important even when money is tight. One of my fabulous ex-boyfriends. And yes, I have the Canadian syndrome of keeping in touch with and be-friending my exes. But enough about me, this fabulous pal who works in social work informed me that programs such as Toronto Works and Ontario Disability Supports are put in place in order to reduce crime. The more we help those in need, the less likely it will be that they need to break the law in order to survive, the less likely that rage that results from not having the basics will prevail.

So, for my pals who love to give and love to read. Consider this gift to yourself a gift also, to those in need.

TIFF and Simone on Smashwords

-->
Alright - 2013 - $95

I have great news! I have just published two literary pieces on Smashwords.

These two pieces are inspiring and poetic. They both speak of love in times of struggle.

I Am Love
$4.95
(https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/353918) was written one day when I was very ill and was searching for reasons to continue to live. It was my darkest hour and somehow I managed to write a piece that inspired me to keep going despite how hard it was. If you have ever been very ill, very depressed or disenchanted, you will enjoy this piece.

Get Up
$4.95
(https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/353928) is was written in the same vein. It was written in two parts. One after a long period of not working. The remainder was finished the day after a gig on set with Lawrence Fishbourne. Don’t get excited. I was merely a background performer. No stardom yet. Soon come.

It is TIFF season in Toronto. I hope that you are able to view some great films. There is so much to choose from and so much to enjoy.

Film is a great inspiration for many artists, myself included. It is a great way to bring life to a dull day. One of my favourite in-city holidays is to watch a film a day. I can be in France, Italy, Germany, England or Africa just footsteps from a busy street in Toronto. I haven’t checked to see what’s playing this year, so I have no suggestions for you. Let me know what your favourites are.

I read an interesting article in a Wednesday’s metro that called Vin Diesel the sexiest ugly man. I beg to differ. Go on with your gorgeousness, Vin Diesel. I’m sure he turns heads wherever he goes. Sticks and stones, I guess. It took me about two seconds to assess that he is incredible looking.

And something to note for the history books. Li Na, is the first ever Chinese player to reach the U.S. Open semi-finals at Flushing Meadows. Congratulations, Li Na!
